The DaMi Solar Power Plant Project Overview

The construction of the DaMi solar power plant which began in June 2018 was completed in May 2019. The project is managed and operated by Da Nhim – Ham Thuan – Da Mi Hydropower Joint Stock Company, Power Generation Corporation 1. The plant’s components are located in Da Mi commune, La Da commune, Ham Thuan Bac, Binh Thuan, on the Da Mi hydropower lake.

The project has a total capacity of 47.5 MWp installed.

The Project Scale

The Da Mi Solar Power Plant project has a total construction area of 56.65 hectares and a total investment of more than VND 1,400 billion. In this case, 143,940 solar photovoltaic panels are put on a floating float system, which is a form of polymer battery with a capacity of roughly 330 Wp per panel. This value corresponds to 50 hectares of water surface, or less than 10% of the entire surface area of Da Mi Lake. Due to the relatively considerable difference between solar radiation and the water surface, the installation on the lake surface yields higher efficiency. Besides, 6.65 hectares were used to construct an inverter system, a 22/110kV step-up transformer station, a 110kV transmission line connected to the national power grid, and other ancillary works.

The highlight of the design is the floating system of HDPE plastic beads, which has a lifespan of more than 20 years. Floats are manufactured from materials that are resistant to corrosion in the environment.

The DaMi solar power plant is designed to produce around 70 million kWh of electricity per year. In fact, the electricity output has reached 74.18 million kWh after one year of operation in 2020. With an 83.40 percent power generating efficiency, this figure has achieved 106 percent of the designed output.

As a result, the Da Mi Surface Power Plant became a trailblazer in the development of power sources on the surface of hydroelectric and irrigation reservoirs.
